Energy Efficiency Helps Make the United States More Energy Secure
As a constituent, I write today to urge you to support federal energy efficiency policies and programs that are helping to make our country more energy independent. Energy production has an important role to play, but energy efficiency is one of the best strategies we have for making our nation more energy secure.
Meeting the increasing energy needs of the United States can be done with increased production, but it can also be done by expanding the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and products that can eliminate wasted energy and reduce our overall energy demand. This approach is often overlooked, but energy efficiency is the fastest, cheapest and most cost-effective method for addressing our energy demand. Without energy efficiency policies enacted since the 1970s, the U.S. would need a considerable amount of additional energy to run our economy – in 2014, it is estimated that our energy consumption was 58 quads lower due to energy efficiency!
Federal efficiency policies and programs housed at the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and elsewhere play a critical role in developing the next generation of technologies and products that will keep the U.S. energy secure into the future. Please protect these programs and support energy efficiency policies that will ensure America remains a global leader in energy efficiency.
