The Alliance organized several program activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to address the problems related to energy sector, suggest solutions and stimulate the use of energy efficiency solutions. These activities include:
Municipal efforts
The Alliance works with ca. 50 municipalities across B&H on projects aimed at energy savings. The Alliance’s work includes training, project development and education efforts.
o Capacity Building:
Through its Energy Efficiency Board, the Alliance holds the trainings in the Energy and Water Management Basics, as well as on the possibilities of rational energy consumption on the local level.
o Software Training and Project Development: created Building Energy
Using the BEEP software, the Alliance has educated through its trainings the representatives of 10 BIH municipalities and developed 10 business plans in the field of energy efficiency in public buildings (schools, hospitals etc.). In order to find possibilities of implementing developed projects the Alliance is working with private businesses from Western Europe to introduce Energy Performance Contracting system.
o Municipal Energy Efficiency Committee: The Alliance developed a Municipal Energy Efficiency Committee that brings together representatives from 25 B&H municipalities. Through Municipal Energy Efficiency Committee Alliance:
Ø Trains municipal leaders and managers in the basics of energy and water management concepts,
Ø Trains municipal managers on how to develop business plans, short and long term strategies for energy efficiency improvements in their municipalities,
Ø Helps municipalities develop and implement energy efficiency pilot projects in schools, hospitals, and water utility companies, etc,
o Education: The Alliance launched several education initiatives aiming to help municipal managers and consumers better understand the water and energy problems in B&H, also informing them on the ways to rationalize the use of energy. It included news and public announcements, development and distribution of documentaries, speaker’s platforms/grand stands and alike.
Water Efficiency Efforts
The Alliance works with water utility companies in B&H in order to:
o Train water utility personnel on how to develop leak reduction plans and use water leak reduction equipment: In the last two years the Alliance has worked on the training of the loss detection teams of the water utility companies of B&H. The education was both theoretical and practical with the special accent on the fieldwork.
o Encourage water utility companies to share experience and knowledge: In order to improve information and experience exchange among water utility companies the alliance has a dozen exchanges a) among the B&H water utility companies b) between water utility companies from B&H and those from Montenegro.
o Introduce Water Leak Reduction Technologies: On several occasions, the Alliance organized presentations of international companies dealing with the problems of water leak reduction (Flexim, SEBA, etc.).
o Educate end –users and train water utility personnel on potentials for efficient use of water resources: Alliance developed two documentaries on water leak and energy use reduction in water utilities titled “An Introduction to Water System Leak Reduction - Making Every Drop Count”:
1) Informational documentary (15min) is used to inform general public/individual consumers about basics and importance of water leak reduction projects in water utility companies. It is used in media campaigns.
2) Educational documentary (210 min) targets teams for water leak reduction in water utility companies. It is used as a tool for the theoretical team training for using the loss measure and detection equipment.
