Testimony: Energy Efficiency and Advanced Transportation Technologies
|
On July 28, The Alliance to Save Energy was provided the opportunity to speak about the role of energy efficiency in advanced transportation technologies during a hearing on Capitol Hill before the Joint Economic Committee. The Alliance’s Vice President for Research and Analysis, Joe Loper, joined witnesses including Dave Garman, the U.S. Department of Energy’s under secretary of energy for energy, science and environment, and representatives from three automobile manufacturers -- Toyota, Ford Motor Company, and DaimlerChrysler. Loper said it is imperative that our nation increasingly translate more of the advancements in vehicle technologies into improvements in fuel economy. He also highlighted a variety of policies to help the nation reduce its dangerous addiction to oil use in the transportation sector, including consumer-based tax incentives for hybrid vehicles and other energy-efficient technologies, increases and reforms to Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, feebates, and taxes on gas guzzlers.
