Alliance Salutes Dr. Arthur Rosenfeld's 80th

Dr. Arthur Rosenfeld On his 80th Birthday

In 1995, Dr. Arthur “Art” Rosenfeld was designated by the Alliance to Save Energy as a “Star of Energy Efficiency” for his extraordinary work in the field of energy efficiency.

As a protégé of nuclear physicist, Enrico Fermi, Art radically changed his life and his work when he recognized that the OPEC oil embargo in 1973 would fundamentally change the way the world would need to deal with energy. He became the early leader in a movement that would lead the United States to become more energy-efficient, even as its economy grew significantly in the next three decades. He laid the groundwork for other giants in the field.

Art pioneered both groundbreaking research and advocacy for energy-efficiency programs and polices. He led the country in developing standards for building performance and appliance efficiency. He founded the Center for Building Science at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the California Institute for Energy Efficiency. At the US Department of Energy, he later became the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Art returned to California as a Commissioner of the California Energy Commission, where he continues to enlighten the state and the world about the benefits derived from energy efficiency.

The Alliance to Save Energy salutes Art on the celebration of his 80th Birthday and wishes him all our best for his continued leadership in this field.
