“The Green Schools Program has made a huge impact on the students and staff here at Sunny Brae Middle School. Through participation in this program we have developed an elective course on campus (called Green Schools) that has 1) completed an energy audit for the school, 2) is in the process of having a solar panel installed, 3) replaced and upgraded our gym lighting, 4) are currently applying to Bright Schools for assistance in the modernization of a wing of classrooms. All of this is a result of the resources and expertise provided by the people implementing the Green Schools program in our area. This is a program that reaches kids because it provides the rare opportunity for kids this age do something tangible and meaningful for their school and community.”

“Green Schools has been and still is inspirational. Staff and students have raised their awareness of energy, particularly conservation. They are aware that when they do not waste energy they actually save money and that money can be used by our school community. Students are enthusiastic and feel that they are making a difference by participating in the Energy Patrol. On Earth Day we sing about energy thanks to the music curriculum given to me by Green Schools. We are truly able to reach students using all their senses.”

Both our staff and the students have benefited from the program. Students have gotten a lot of materials that helped them understand the concepts that their teacher was conveying to them. The staff has become more aware of their role in energy consumption. Changing behavior has helped the district to cut costs and save money in running their operations.”
