Orion Energy Systems will be presented with the 2007 Super Nova Award for the company's production of energy-efficient and clean energy technologies. Orion is a vertically integrated power technology enterprise. The company specializes in the design, development, manufacture and deployment of energy-efficient lighting systems, demand response controls and direct renewable technology. In 2001, the company revolutionized the industry with a high intensity fluorescent technology platform called the Illuminator. This platform uses half the energy of traditional high intensity discharge lighting systems and typically provides significantly more light. Adopted by over 75 of the Fortune 500 companies, the use of this platform has saved customers over $185 million in energy costs. The company now holds 15 patents on its energy-efficient systems and product enhancements. The new iteration of Orion's energy efficiency lighting system, the Compact Modular Series, recently won the 2007 National Professional Society of Engineers' New Product of the Year. Orion also developed metering technology to assist customers in substantiating the energy savings delivered by their projects. In addition, the recent development of a wireless, web-based metering technology will allow customers to monitor their energy usage and manage their consumption profile, including their peak demand. Recognizing the need for funds to finance energy-efficiency projects, Orion designed an innovative financing model that allows customers to acquire an energy savings platform without capital expenditures. Orion is also a member of the Chicago Climate Exchange. This membership allows the Orion and its customers to reduce their carbon footprint by quantifying, aggregating and ultimately monetizing the emissions offsets resulting from various energy efficiency projects. |
