SUMMARY
The Research Associate is responsible for supporting the activities of two programs within the Alliance to Save Energy’s Buildings and Utilities Team: the Efficient Windows Collaborative (EWC), and the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP). The EWC is a market transformation project designed to increase the market share of efficient window technologies in residential and commercial buildings. BCAP is dedicated to assisting states and local jurisdictions in the adoption, implementation, and advancement of building energy codes. This position will be divided between these two projects as project priorities require. The Research Associate may also be assigned to other buildings or industrial sector energy efficiency projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform research and analysis on building energy efficiency technologies, policies, and programs, with a special focus on energy-efficient window technologies and building energy codes
- Track the progress of state and local building energy codes across the U.S., and prepare updated material for the BCAP web site
- Assist in preparing project work plans, budgets, reports, and grant proposals
- Plan and organize meetings, workshops and other events as assigned
- Gather information and produce newsletters for BCAP and the EWC
- Respond to inquiries from consumers and industry members
- Perform other research, analysis, writing, and project support duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent analysis, research, and writing skills in English
- A strong goal and deadline orientation
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (website development skills and experience are desirable but not required)
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in a team environment
- Self-motivation and ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines, with limited supervision
- General knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and basic principles of economic analysis
- Bachelors degree in a field related to energy efficiency (e.g., architecture, engineering, economics, public policy, business or public administration, environmental studies)
