Job Title: Senior Program/Research Associate
Team: Buildings and Utility Programs
Reports To: Jeffrey Harris, Vice President - Programs
SUMMARY
The Senior Research Associate is responsible for research, analysis, and program development for the Commercial Buildings Initiative, a new multi-year government-industry collaboration aimed at developing and deploying the technologies, practices, and policies to support a dramatic reduction in energy use by commercial buildings over the next two decades and beyond.
The Alliance’s roles will include organizing and staffing multiple research, analysis, and demonstration teams with both sectoral representatives and technology experts. A considerable degree of independent initiative will be required, along with the ability to quickly acquire new information, to work effectively with team members from the Alliance and other organizations, and to express complex ideas in clear, compelling written form. This position may also involve assignments with other buildings, industrial, or utility sector energy efficiency projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiate and carry out research and analysis on commercial building energy efficiency technologies, policies, and programs
- Compile information from team members and prepare project work plans, budgets, reports, and grant proposals
- Plan and organize meetings, workshops and other events as assigned; take notes and prepare summary reports on a range of complex technical and market/program issues.
- Working with limited supervision, perform other research, analysis, writing, and project organizing and support duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent analysis, research, and writing skills in English
- A strong goal and deadline orientation
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (website development skills and experience are desirable but not required)
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in a team environment
- Self-motivation and ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines, with limited supervision
- Working knowledge of commercial building energy efficiency technologies and basic principles of economic analysis
- Bachelors degree and two years relevant experience (or Masters degree) in a field related to commercial building energy efficiency (e.g., architecture, engineering, economics, public policy, business or public administration, environmental studies)
