Brad Penney, Director of Government Relations

Brad PennyBrad Penney is the Director of Government Relations for the Alliance to Save Energy. He previously worked on Capitol Hill for twelve years, beginning as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Claiborne Pell (D. R.I.) and later serving as Pell’s Legislative Counsel and as Counsel to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and as Counsel to the House Committee on Science, Space & Technology (now renamed the Science Committee). Prior to joining the Alliance, he operated his own government relations firm and was a registered lobbyist for the University of Massachusetts/Amherst campus. He was the co-founder and lobbyist for the New England Green Chemistry Consortium, a first of its kind collaborative research initiative of seven New England land grant campuses with the objective of replacing toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing process with environmentally-friendly materials.

Brad is a native of New England and received his A.B. degree, magna cum laude with honors in history, from Brown University and holds a J.D. degree from the Cornell Law School. He has practiced law with firms in New England and Washington D.C. and has authored a number of articles on public policy issues which have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Christian Science Monitor, the Baltimore Sun, the Providence Journal-Bulletin and other publications. He is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar and has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts in Rhode Island and Maryland. Before law school, Brad was a radio news reporter for two years in Providence, Rhode Island.
