Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA)

Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) is a not-for-profit rural electric cooperative serving more than 27,000 member-owners in SW Colorado. DMEA is a proud member of the Touchstone Energy alliance--more than 660 local, consumer-owned electric cooperatives in 46 states that collectively deliver power and energy solutions to more than 30 million members every day. DMEA is known for its promotion and financing of energy efficiency measures for its residential members. In 2008 DMEA launched a geothermal “loop tariff” through which the co-op pays for, installs and owns the loop component of residential geothermal systems, reducing the overall up front cost to consumers for home geothermal systems by about half.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) honored DMEA with its Community Service Award for energy efficiency on Feb. 16, 2009.

DMEA was recognized in 2006 with an “Excellence in ENERGY STAR Outreach” award for its Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) promotion, “Brightening Our Communities.”
