It’s the $900 billion-dollar question: What will it take for a worldwide deployment of energy efficiency?
From April 27 – 29, 2009, the world’s leading voices in energy will convene for the Energy Efficiency Global Forum and Exposition (EE Global) in Paris, France, to strategize ways of capturing what McKinsey Global Institute calls the “energy efficiency opportunity” – an investment that would yield $900 billion in annual energy savings by the year 2020.
Who will be there
Hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy, the Energy Efficiency Global Forum and Exposition – EE Global – gathers energy efficiency experts from all regions of the world to discuss best practices, progressive policies and emerging technologies in the arena of energy efficiency. Over the course of three days, the success stories of countries, cities, communities and businesses will be used to benchmark energy efficiency worldwide. This unique opportunity arises from EE Global's position as “the only true global conference for the energy efficiency community,” as Program Manager at the European Commission DG JRC’s Institute for Environment and Sustainability Paolo Bertoldi describes it. “It is an event where all divisions can get together at a high level to share experiences and to pave the way forward in further promoting energy efficiency as a key driver for reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing the security of life around the globe,” says Bertoldi, whose role as Chairman of EE Global’s International Planning Committee grants him a wide scope of the event.
How it works
Because energy efficiency is itself a cross-sector issue, EE Global’s Executive Dialogue Sessions fuse topic and focus to create a variety of sessions that will appeal to any area of interest. Tracks are centered around the buildings, industrial and utility, transportation and consumer sectors, with sessions in each focusing on timely topics in the areas of policy, finance, technology and market transformation. This means that delegates can create their own agendas. The industry professional can learn about Creative Financing for Industrial and Utility Energy Efficiency (Session 1B), while the policymaker listens to public officials discussing ways of Creating Livable Cities with Energy Efficiency as the Foundation (Session 1C). All 24 of these sessions are led by a stellar cast of speakers, moderators and rapporteurs.
But there is also the big picture to consider. How do these strategies harmonize to render energy efficiency as a global resource? Offering a panoramic view of energy efficiency today – and a peek of what’s to come – are the industry leaders headlining EE Global’s four Plenary Sessions. For these world-renowned individuals, the answer to the $900 billion question is first discovered in an integrated strategy that works for all sectors seeking to tap the potential of energy efficiency.
The $900 billion answer
Like seconds ticking down to a final answer, the window of time between thought and action is coming to a close. Energy efficiency – hands-down the cheapest, cleanest and most reliable fuel – is ready to be deployed. But the lift is one that no one industry or country can perform alone. What EE Global is offering is a chance to coordinate that lift and work out a strategy with members of the energy efficiency community, so that this limitless resource can answer all our energy questions.
