In light of such momentous events, we offer you an Alliance side-by-side document comparing the energy efficiency funding in the House and Senate bills.

Join Us for the 6th Annual Great Energy Efficiency Day

Great Energy Efficiency Day 2009Wednesday, March 4; 9:30 am – 3 pm
Room G-50 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building

President Obama promises a 'new era' of energy and environmental policy built on energy efficiency. The new Congress is committed to developing significant energy and climate legislation. Never has there been a better time to join the Alliance in the Nation's Capital for an in-depth discussion on energy efficiency and the roll it must play in a clean energy future for the U.S.

The Great Energy Efficiency Day is a "must attend" event with stakeholders from business, industry, government and academia discussing the urgent need for energy efficiency. This year's event will feature an impressive roster of speakers addressing energy efficiency in the utility sector; climate and energy policy; carbon pricing policy; and measuring success. There is no admission fee; however, you must register online. Visit www.ase.org/geed today.

CONSUMER AWARENESS

Clean, Green Jeans: Laundry Tips for the Energy Efficient

Did you know that clothes washers and dryers account for more than six percent of your annual energy bill – not to mention that heating up the water accounts for 80 percent of the energy used while washing clothes? Luckily, there are a few ways to reduce energy use – and save money – with each load. Paired with innovative, environmentally friendly fashions from famed Levi Strauss & Co., good laundry practices can be an exercise in energy efficiency.

IN SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES

Green Campus Initiatives Shed New Light on Energy Efficiency

How many Green Campus interns does it take to change a lightbulb? Let's put it this way: the more interns there are, the more energy you save, as those at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz have so effectively demonstrated. By researching and deploying lighting retrofits these students are helping to reduce overall energy use in these California universities.

EE AT WORK

Raising Standards: A Three-part Series on Energy Efficiency Standards for Industry

Responsible for 1/3 of the energy consumed in the U.S. annually, the industrial sector has a number of new and existing standards by which to regulate their operations. In this three-part series, eNews will explore standards that save energy and money and decrease carbon emissions. Part II of this series looks at an existing voluntary standard known as ANSI/MSE 2000 – A Management System for Energy.

Survey Says: 2009 IECC Will Boost Average New Home's Energy Efficiency by at Least 12.2 Percent

America's homes are becoming more energy efficient each year, thanks in part to the Energy Efficient Codes Coalition's (EECC) diligent campaign for better building codes. According to a recent study released by the EECC, homes built to the new code will reduce energy use by at least 12.2 percent and generate savings for homeowners.
