WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy Killer Watts (presented by Sign of the WhaleTM) put on a record-breaking performance Tuesday night, pounding out 25 hits on their way to a 19-0 shutout victory over the Natural Resources Defense Council Jackalopes. At 3-0 on the season, the Watts are off to the best start in team history.
Outfielder Paul Bostrom led the team with 3 RBI as the Watts enjoyed three hits each from shortstop Sean Garcia, third baseman Paul Karrer, outfield Joe “Intern X” Teng, and outfielder Jared Kronitz. The rest of the Watts’ lineup contributed multiple runs or hits, including two runs and two hits each from infielders Emily Curley and Eric Plunkett.
On the mound, hurler David Mann (1-0) frustrated the Jackalope batsmen the entire game. With a stellar defensive performance behind him, Mann allowed only two runners as far as third base, including escaping from a bases loaded jam in the second inning.
The game was called after the top of the fifth inning due to the 15-run mercy rule in the Environmental Non-Profit League.
The Watts’ next game is Monday, May 18 versus the Tree Sluggers of the National Environmental Trust. The first pitch is set for 6:09 pm.
NOTES: The scheduled game last week against the National Wildlife Federation / Audubon Society Scrubjays was postponed due to weather, the Watts’ second rain-out of the spring. Games will likely be made up during the open weeks surrounding the Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays….Watts veteran Steve Capanna will continue to miss action in the ENPL after the team sold his contract to the Alliance to Save Energy’s Greek affiliate, Μεγάλα ραβδιά, for a computer monitor to be named later.
