WASHINGTON – Like an efficient machine, the Alliance to Save Energy Killer Watts (presented by Sign of the WhaleTM) continued their steady efforts on both sides of the ball Monday night, cruising to a 14-8 victory over the League of Conservation Voters/Earth Justice Global Swarming. The Watts are now 6-0 as they near the midpoint of their fourth Environmental Non-Profit League season, streaking to eight straight wins since the end of last year.
The top four spots of the Alliance lineup led the scoring parade, combining to go 16 for 20 while scoring 10 runs and plating 11 Killer Watts. Outfielder Jared Kronitz was perfect on the day, reaching base all five times at bat, while outfielder Rob “Magic Spock” Magsipoc and rainbow-socked third baseman Paul Karrer each drove themselves in on homeruns (a career first for Karrer). Shortstop Sean “I’m Not There” Garcia led the run production with 4 RBI. The game’s sweetest swings came courtesy of outfielder Eric “Former Intern” Plunkett, beautifully stroking three Global Swarming pitches through the infield.
The defense behind hurler Holly Seeloff (4-0) once again dominated, shutting out the opponents for four innings before making several impressive plays to snuff out any potential rallies. Plunkett led the highlight reel in right, tracking down multiple line drives from left-handed hitters. Garcia and second baseman Jess Molina combined for three forceouts to stunt the Swarming attack, and first baseman Emily Curley sported a steady glove on that bag to net some difficult throws. The Watts were able to turn out the lights on their opponents by keeping their big fifth inning to just three runs, as Karrer charged towards a soft grounder on the left side to toss the ball to catcher Kelly Guhanick for the third out on a forceout at home.
The next game for the Killer Watts is Monday, June 15 against the Defenders of Wildlife Killer Fairy Shrimp. First pitch is set for 6:12pm.
NOTES: Team management has tentatively rescheduled a rainout makeup game against the NWF/Audubon Scrubjays for Monday, June 29 at 6pm, as well as another tentative makeup date against the Killer Fairy Shrimp for Wednesday, July 1 at 6pm....Beleaguered Watts veteran Steve Capanna has reported for duty after re-enlisting with the Johns Hopkins Academic Corps. He has asked his fans to send care packages of DOE reports and fine Greek cheeses. His return to action this season remains uncertain.
