State Energy Plans: Alabama

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA) appropriated $3.1 billion for the Department of Energy’s State Energy Program (SEP), which provides funding to state energy offices (SEOs) for energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. The following page summarizes Alabama's planned use of the funding.

Total Stimulus Funding in Alabama: $55,570,000

Alabama is soliciting proposals for the following program areas under the State Energy Program (SEP):

Energy Efficient Retrofits of K-12 Schools Funding for local school systems to purchase and install energy-efficient improvements in K-12 schools located within their jurisdiction $5 million
Training Seminars on Building Energy Codes Providing training workshops and seminars on the aspects and benefits of building to the 2006 and 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Up to $200,000
Energy Audit Training Seminars Providing training for individuals such as engineers, architects, subcontractors, builders, and others interested in becoming certified to offer residential and commercial energy audits. $50,000
Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Training Seminars Providing training courses for HERS Rater certification $50,000
High Performance Building Training Seminars Providing training on design, construction, and operations of High Performance Buildings Up to $200,000
Automotive Industrial Efficiency Program Request for innovative proposals from Alabama organizations to assist the automotive manufacturing industry in Alabama by stabilizing employment, reducing costs, improve processes, and reducing energy consumption. $600,000
