The Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee reported S. 1462, the American Clean Energy Leadership Act (ACELA), a unified energy bill, on June 17th, 2009. The bill contains significant energy efficiency provisions including greatly strengthened building codes, a renewable electricity standard with an energy efficiency component, and new energy efficient product standards. ACELA sets no carbon reduction requirements, which are contained in Senator Kerry and Senator Boxer's recently introduced Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act
