This fall, the Alliance's Green Campus program will come to the East, West and Southwest campuses of Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). The program will partner with key stakeholders to engage the campus community in energy and money-saving activities – many of which mirror the district’s current energy efficiency initiatives. The program will also help prepare students for the green workforce while providing a shot in the arm for LACCD campuses strained by statewide education budget cuts.
The program's core involves support of the district's facilities managers and faculty. Through Green Campus, the Alliance will partner with college staff to sponsor educational opportunities that complement existing curricula and provide students with intensive, ongoing energy efficiency training. This training will enable students to build awareness of LACCD’s energy efficiency initiatives, encourage behavioral and operational changes to maximize new building efficiency, assist with energy-saving retrofits, and participate in hands-on projects to augment classroom study.
Additionally, the program will help prepare students for green employment opportunities by building relevant job skills and linking them with energy-related employers.
