On the Policy Front

What the 2009 American Clean Energy and Security Act Means for Energy Efficiency

On Friday, June 26 an historic moment occurred here in Washington: the House’s razor-thin vote in favor of H.R. 2454 marked the first time a U.S. legislative body has passed legislation for the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. We applaud House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Ed Markey for their tireless efforts to achieve critical mass on this crucial bill. We also congratulate the House at large for taking this bold step toward a clean-energy economy.

Using soda cans and different kinds of materials found around the house, this Green Schools lesson plan shows how insulation blocks heat flow, keeping heat out during the summer months. Other Green Schools lesson plans available here.

Learn more about the Green Campus program.

Consumer Awareness

Keeping Cool the Energy-Efficient Way

Just because the temperature is rising outside doesn’t mean that your electricity bill has to. Use the AC properly and you can keep cool on the cheap.

EE Insights

EcoPulse 2009

"Green". "Organic". "Natural". "Efficient". These terms and others are common parlance in the green marketing space. But what do they mean to consumers?  The Shelton Group's recently released Eco Pulse 2009 explores consumer attitudes on green products, practices and services to discover how much the green marketplace motivates today's consumer.

EE Noon Brownbag seminar: Suzanne Shelton of Shelton Group to speak at our EE Noon Brownbag Series on July 24 (Alliance DC offices.) Visit the EE Noon website for more information on this series.
