Alliance Associate Schneider Electric will sponsor the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Solar Decathlon 2009, a competition for university students from the U.S., Canada, Germany and Spain. Using a “micro-grid” to connect to the local utility service provider, students will build functioning, energy-efficient model houses for display on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Schneider has donated the micro-grid design as well as the site and engineering services, electrical equipment and other Schneider products.
“Schneider Electric is proud to sponsor the Solar Decathlon and encourage students and the community to think about active energy solutions that can be implemented today,” said Amelia Huntington, president of Schneider Electric U.S. The goal of the Decathlon is to create innovative home energy solutions, increase awareness of energy efficiency and, most importantly, inspire the next generation of job seekers to “think green”.
The Solar Decathlon will be open to the public from October 9 to 13 and again October 15 to 18 on the National Mall, weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.
