Join the Media Campaign for Strong Climate & Energy Legislation

As Congress’s schedule for energy and climate legislation accelerates, amassing support among voters for the enactment of strong energy and climate legislation has never been more critical. As an active member of the Clean Energy Business Campaign for America (CEBCA), the Alliance is calling on Associates for their added support of this grassroots media campaign.

How the campaign works

CEBCA is a grassroots media campaign driven by a coalition of businesses and organizations throughout the energy sector. With its uniquely business perspective, CEBCA strives to educate voters in key states about the vast job potential and other economic benefits associated with a clean energy economy. The goal is to incite both businesses and voters alike to contact members of their delegation in support of strong energy and climate legislation.

The campaign has already purchased a number of ads, including our first state-specific ad developed for Pennsylvania, profiling real employees in clean energy businesses throughout the state. The Pennsylvania ad (PDF 724 KB) appeared in local newspapers last month, reaching a readership of over 750,000. Over the next few months, we hope to develop similar ads for other battleground states, particularly Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and the Dakotas.

Alongside these grassroots efforts, the campaign has addressed House and Senate members, as seen in an Open Letter to Congress (PDF 484 KB) that appeared in the October 6 issue of Roll Call. With over one hundred signatories, the letter expressed the business community’s interest in seeing energy and climate legislation passed swiftly. A link to the letter was provided in a banner ad we placed on Politico’s website that week.

How Associates can help

CEBCA has made considerable headway in climate messaging thus far. However, our momentum can only be sustained by the support we get from others. The Alliance is calling on our Associates to become involved. You can do this by

  1. Making a contribution to the campaign to help pay for more state and ‘inside the beltway’ ads.
  2. For our Associates that have facilities in battleground states, submitting a ghosted op-ed piece to local newspapers (which we would provide to you) that underscore the vast job potential in the clean energy sector and the benefits of energy and climate legislation specific to your state.
  3. Participating in CEO-level meetings with Senators from battleground states.
  4. Signing on to future Open Letters to Congress.

In addition to helping us build a grassroots movement in support of strong energy policy, this could be a great opportunity for your business to gain more visibility and build relationships with other energy businesses and organizations, as well as members of Congress.

If you are interested in becoming involved or would like more information, please contact Lauren Dennis at ldennis@ase.org or (202) 530-4349.
