DOE Launches Save Energy Now LEADER Program
On December 2, 2009, 32 leading industrial companies signed a pledge to reduce energy intensity by 25 percent over 10 years, as part of the U.S. DOE's Save Energy Now LEADER program. Supported by the Alliance, this initiative provides committed companies with the resources they need to meet aggressive energy efficiency targets. Pictured: Rep. NYC Council Passing Landmark Building Energy Efficiency Legislation
Yesterday the New York City Council passed landmark legislation to improve energy efficiency in its building stock requiring owners of large private and public buildings to undertake energy benchmarking and energy audits and, in some cases, implement lighting upgrades and energy efficiency maintenance practices. The legislation would also establish a building energy code for renovated existing buildings. Read the city’s press release about this crucial step forward in the greening of American's cities, as well as the New York Times article that quotes Alliance Vice President Jeff Harris on the issue.
