Students at Wilde Lake Middle School started their Green Schools Program in January 2003 by establishing an energy patrol, designing switch plate covers, and putting together an energy saving plan. The energy patrol uses small reminders to congratulate teachers who are performing well and offer helpful reminders to try harder to teachers who aren’t quite there yet.
In 2003, Wilde Lake plans on incorporating the energy message into math classes by having students gather energy data and learn how to graph the data to gain an understanding of energy usage trends. The program also focuses on water and recycling in addition to energy. They have a water walk-through planned and students are making posters and recycling bins to increase student awareness. Finally, they started a scrap paper campaign to decrease their paper usage even more.
