Renewable Energy

house.gifThis program focuses mainly on energy efficiency. However, for a sustainable long-term energy future, we must also consider renewable energy sources to replace our use of dwindling and polluting fossil fuels.

For the typical home, solar energy is the most widely-used source for such uses as:

  • Water Heating - effective in most climates.
  • Electricity - photovoltaic cells can convert sunlight into electricity for home uses
  • Passive Solar - when building new homes or additions, use southern exposures to collect the sun's heat in winter. Use roof overhangs, light-colored roofs, trees and shading devices to keep the sun's heat out in summer.

Wind energy and micro-hydroelectric energy are also good sources for homes in locations with adequate wind or water resources. For more information contact:
