CLEAR Act Tax Incentives Would Reduce U.S. Oil Dependence By Encouraging Purchase of Hybrid Vehicles, Says Alliance

Washington, D.C., April 28 – “Federal incentives encouraging the purchase and use of hybrid electric vehicles through the tax code will help to lessen our dependence on imported oil and improve the efficiency of the transportation sector,” said Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan.

“With oil remaining in the $50-a-barrel range, we need measures like the “Clean Efficient Automobiles Resulting from Advanced Car Technologies of 2005 (aka the ‘CLEAR ACT’) which will encourage consumers to purchase hybrid cars, trucks and buses -- vehicles that have the potential for significant improvements in fuel economy.

“We also call on the Congress to ensure that the provisions of the CLEAR Act are incorporated in any meaningful energy legislation being considered by the Congress.  These incentives can give consumers a way to tackle our high oil and gas prices, while simultaneously achieving gains in energy security and air quality.”
