For Immediate Release
Washington, D.C., July 23, 2009 – Take me out to the ballgame… to learn how to save at the gas pump??? Yes, really!
This Sunday, the Washington Nationals’ energy-efficient LEED-certified stadium will host a booth showcasing the Drive $marter Challenge, a campaign to help Washingtonians and drivers around the country lower their gasoline costs by being more fuel efficient. Thanks to campaign partner and stadium sponsor ExxonMobil, the campaign will reach thousands of local drivers attending this weekend’s game.
Supported by the Alliance to Save Energy, ExxonMobil and 13 additional diverse nonprofit, governmental, trade association, and for-profit partners, the Drive $marter Challenge features a unique, interactive website showing drivers exactly how much they could save – typically hundreds of dollars a year – by adopting just six of the campaign’s numerous driving and vehicle maintenance tips. The website also offers a wealth of resources ranging from information on biking, carpooling, telecommuting, and using public transit to finding a fuel-efficient rental car (www.drivesmarterchallenge.org).
Prior to and during Sunday’s 1:35 pm game against the San Diego Padres, Alliance staff will distribute campaign information at the booth, which also will be “staffed” by the dastardly Energy Hog – the “spokesvillain” for energy waste – who will have “tattoos” and bookmarks for kids who stop by.
And as they exit the ballpark, fans will receive handy tip cards, co-branded by the Alliance and ExxonMobil, with driving and vehicle maintenance advice. Those tips also will be displayed on the stadium’s Jumbotron during the 7th Inning Stretch.
The Drive $marter Challenge campaign’s many creative channels for delivering money- and gas-saving tips in English and Spanish include humorous radio public service ads, billboards, mobile marketing, and podcasts by a NASCAR driver.
