The Alliance to Save Energy is proud that nine Alliance Associates have been designated Energy Star Partners of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE). The 2004 awardees – Home Depot, Maytag , New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) , OSRAM SYLVANIA, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Sears Roebuck and Co., 3M Company, and Whirlpool – are among 57 leading companies and organization recognized at an award ceremony last night in Washington, D.C.

Alliance Chairman Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) said, “Congratulations to these award-winning Alliance Associates, who clearly demonstrate the commitment of U.S. business, industry, and government to energy efficiency. Through their visionary leadership they, along with the Alliance to Save Energy, are paving the way to a clean, sustainable, and secure energy future.”

Alliance Co-Chairman and former OSRAM SYLVANIA President Dean T. Langford commented, “I am proud to work with the Alliance and these terrific Associates, whose contributions to energy efficiency are being recognized this year. EPA and DOE, too, are to be commended for their support of Energy Star, a successful voluntary public-private program offering multiple benefits to American consumers, business, industry, and government.”

Alliance President Kateri Callahan noted that this year's awardees continue a strong tradition of Alliance Associate recognition. “We're proud to have played a part in the Energy Star program and even more proud of the significant showing of Alliance Associates in 2004,” Callahan said. “They join the more than 7,000 companies and organizations recognized as Energy Star Partners since 1993 for their commitment to improving the energy efficiency of products, homes, and businesses.”

Alliance Associates were recognized in several categories: Leadership in Energy Management (3M); Partner of the Year – Manufacturers ( OSRAM SYLVANIA, Whirlpool); Excellence in Appliance Retailing ( Sears, Roebuck and Co); National Product Campaign Award (Home Depot, Maytag); and Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Education ( NYSERDA, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, SMUD).
