Release Date: Monday, March 4, 2013

Statement from Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan

“President Obama continues to build his second-term cabinet with more recognized and ardent energy efficiency champions to the great benefit of our country’s energy and economic future,” said Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan.

“Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Steven Chu and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson leave behind important legacies of advancing energy efficiency and we are confident that will continue with the President’s new nominees.”

Ernest Moniz: Consistent Energy Efficiency Supporter

“Ernest Moniz has long been a recognized, outspoken and effective energy efficiency advocate during his career in government and academia, which will allow him to thrive in his new DOE role.

“We are confident that Dr. Moniz will bring forward an innovative and implementable plan to achieve the President’s and the Alliance’s Energy 2030 goal announced goal to double U.S. energy productivity by 2030.

“We stand ready to work with and support Dr. Moniz to create, fund and implement the energy efficiency Race to the Top program promised by the President and called for in our Commission’s Energy 2030 plan.

Alliance’s Energy Efficiency Global Forum in 2010

Gina McCarthy: Encouraging Fuel Efficiency, Energy Star and More

“From her state-level energy work to her important role in the historic, new federal fuel economy standards, Gina McCarthy has been, and will continue to be, a major player in advancing energy efficiency.

“McCarthy will hit the ground running with four years of EPA experience leading and innovating important programs and regulations. She also has a keen understanding of the President’s agenda, and the challenges facing the nation as we move toward greater energy productivity and a more sustainable energy system.

“We urge Congress to quickly approve Moniz and McCarthy’s nominations so we can get started on the path to doubling energy productivity and delivering the jobs, security and environmental benefits that come with achieving this goal.”
