On May 24, 2007 Alliance President Kateri Callahan testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality. Ms. Callahan submitted written testimony and delivered oral remarks on energy efficiency provisions currently under consideration for inclusion in a House energy efficiency bill. The House discussion draft features 29 provisions to improve energy efficiency including appliance standards, building codes, federal energy management programs, and extensions of existing programs.

On April 2nd, the Alliance to Save Energy, together with the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, submitted Joint Testimony to the Massachusetts Telecommunications Utilities and Energy Committee urging the Committee not to advance The Green Communities Act of 2007 (H.B.3965). Both groups support the objectives of increasing funding for green community initiatives, but feel this cannot be accomplished by dismantling one of the nation’s most effective infrastructure systems for administering energy efficiency programs.

On March 28, 2007 Alliance President Kateri Callahan testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on reducing government energy use through innovation and efficiency. In addition to submitting written testimony, Ms. Callahan delivered an oral statement and answered questions from Sens. Barbara Boxer (D – CA) and James Inhofe (R – OK) among others. She was joined on the panel by David Winstead, Commissioner, Public Building Service, U.S. General Services Administration, and Melanie Townshend, Associated General Contractors of America.
