The Alliance supports improved building energy codes through several efforts:
- Upgrading model codes at the national level.
- Supporting state adoption of model codes.
- Helping state & local governments implement model codes.
The Alliance works through the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP), A joint initiative of the Alliance, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. BCAP promotes the adoption, implementation and utilization of energy-efficient construction standards in the United States.
The Online Code Environment and Advocacy Network (OCEAN) is a collaborative online resource designed to promote and facilitate the adoption and implementation of building energy codes. As a resource library and outreach center, OCEAN is a clearinghouse for valuable, reliable information on all things codes, from basic educational documents to advanced technical and policy tools. It also gives experts and novices alike the chance to share, learn from, and replicate successful local- and state-level code and beyond-code programs with lessons learned, best practices and other resources from the field. Moreover, through its online groups and discussion forum, OCEAN creates a virtual community of diverse stakeholders that encourages collaboration built on the collective experience and expertise of its users.
The Responsible Energy Codes Alliance (RECA) is a consortium of energy efficiency professionals, product and equipment manufacturers, and trade associations. RECA works to improve the energy efficiency of homes through greater use of energy efficient practices and building products. It is administered by the Alliance.
For more information for consumers and builders, The Alliance strongly suggests the Department of Energy's Buildings Energy Codes Program website.
