India
Case study explains energy conservation initiatives using six hotels as examples. Also includes water and solid waste management initiatives.
Indonesia
A report, "High-Value Applications for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technologies," on Indonesian efficiency programs, including a section on hotels.
Jamaica
Energy conservation measures (ECMs) studied in four representative hotels. This paper briefly discusses case studies of ECMs and possible financing methods.
South Asia
Overview of the status of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in South Asia. Countries include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka
Information regarding a waste audit in two coastal hotels. The main focus was on energy, water, and other material-utilization levels and the corresponding waste-generation levels.
USA
Marriot Hotel Case Study of Denver Place North and South. Details include lighting, HVAC, chiller systems, project timeline, and results.
Barbados
One example of enormous water-savings potential of efficient water technologies can be found in a March 2000 USAID study on the opportunity for water efficiency improvements in the Barbados hotel industry. The study found that hotels that aggressively use water-saving technologies, such as low-flow toilets, faucet aerators, and drip irrigation, consume one-fifth of the water per guest as similar hotels with less aggressive water efficiency actions; guests at the more water-efficient hotels noticed no reduction in customer service. In addition, the study estimated that the least-efficient hotel surveyed could achieve more than US$250,000 in savings per year in water bills alone if it implemented the same technologies as the most efficient hotel.
