Dan Hooks joined the Alliance as Director of Finance in June 2009. He provides day to day management of accounting staff, prepares all organizational financial reports, and heads up the annual audit process. As a member of the finance staff, Dan often pitches in to provide assistance and guidance to staff in all departments and program areas. Several times in his career, Dan has also worn the human resources ‘hat’ in addition to his role in finance.
Dan has over 25 years experience in the non-profit arena, most of that time in northern Virginia and DC, but also in Georgia and North Carolina. His first full-charge accounting position at a camp and conference center in North Carolina did not have computerized accounting systems – it was the old-fashioned black ledger and paper; but he feels it gave him a solid overall understanding of technical accounting. He also has for profit experience in retail and manufacturing. He lists patience, a low-key approach to problems, and the ability to work through intricate tasks as strong traits.
Hooks attended the University of Georgia majoring in biology, Northern Virginia Community College where he studied accounting, and the University of Mary Washington for a degree in Professional Studies. He resides in Fredericksburg, VA with his wife and children.
