Karen Francis
The Alliance’s Leadership
Karen Francis
Karen Francis has taught as a General Education teacher for over 28 Years. She currently teaches Multicultural Education at Lyndon B. Johnson – PS223 in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Over the past year, Mrs. Francis led the school’s student team in the National Grid EmPowered Schools program, winning the award for outstanding team achievement. She distinguished her program by making it accessible to the entire school, creating a club to share the program’s curriculum and resources with students across all grade levels.
Karen’s educational leadership extends from the classroom into the community, where she coordinates an annual multicultural festival with local restaurants, food vendors, and supermarkets. Hosted on the school’s playground, the event serves all those in the surrounding community. Karen is passionate about supporting the asylum seekers that have become part of the Queens community, through her volunteer work with local non-profits and her church. Her vision of energy efficiency as a vital part of her community service is why we’re so proud to present her with the Guiding Star Award.
