Energy Upgrade California Time-of-Use Education Program
We are excited to share a new online STEAM-based enrichment program from the Alliance to Save Energy. We understand the challenge in making distance learning relevant and engaging for your students this school year, and have partnered with Energy Upgrade California to help meet that need. The program focuses on climate change, California’s energy system, and how the state’s upcoming Time-of-Use (TOU) rates will help California’s clean energy transition. Students will gain a better understanding of climate impacts and will be given the tools to help their families and communities reduce their greenhouse gas emissions while lowering their energy bills. The content is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) of Global Climate Change and Interdependence of Science, Technology, and Engineering.
The program is quick, requires minimal instructional time, and is a lot of fun! It’s open to schools across the state – in Northern, Southern and Central California. Program materials are provided online, in video format, in both English and Spanish, and can be accessed through computers, phones, tablets or other digital devices. There is also a competitive element with a live Leaderboard: classrooms will vie to see who can engage the most Californians, and successful and creative classrooms will win recognition, student prizes and (if school is back in session) pizza and donut parties. Participating families will also save thousands of dollars through energy savings, especially important in this moment of financial hardship. And teachers will receive $100 stipend in thanks for their efforts. If you are interested, please fill out our sign-up sheet. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Local Project Leader Audrey Christopher.
