Alliance Congratulates Energy Efficiency Champion as New EPA Chief
Statement from Alliance to Save Energy’s Rodney Sobin, Director of Research and Regulatory Affairs
“The Alliance congratulates a strong friend of energy efficiency, Gina McCarthy, on her confirmation today as the new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.
“As Assistant Administrator, McCarthy brought vast local and state-level experience to the agency, including management of Massachusetts and Connecticut environmental agencies under both Republican and Democratic governors. She also brought an openness to diverse views, an eye toward innovation, a dedication to public health, and an appreciation for energy efficiency as a key to pollution reduction.
“At the EPA, McCarthy led efforts to advance vehicle fuel efficiency and strengthen the Energy Star program. She also directed staff to find opportunities to use energy efficiency as a cost-effective pollution prevention approach and encourage states to include efficiency in their air quality plans.
“As the Alliance’s National Commission on Energy Efficiency Policy developed its recommendations for policies, programs and regulations that could double U.S. energy productivity by 2030, we found a great ally and partner in EPA and we are confident that Administrator McCarthy will become an even stronger and more effective energy efficiency champion as she takes her place at the helm of EPA.
