Washington, D.C., – Lynda Ziegler, a senior vice president at Southern California Edison (SCE), has been elected to the Alliance to Save Energy’s Board of Directors. She will hold the seat currently filled by SCE President John Fielder, who is retiring from the investor-owned utility and the Alliance Board at the end of 2010.
Ziegler oversees SCE’s industry-leading demand-side management programs and implementation of advanced metering. Ziegler began her career with SCE in 1981 as a conservation-planning consultant, going on to serve as manager of energy efficiency. Under her leadership, SCE has been an award-winning energy efficiency leader, recognized nine times by the federal government’s ENERGY STAR program. Over the past five years, the utility has saved enough energy to power 965,000 homes.
“Lynda Ziegler’s career exemplifies a deep commitment to energy efficiency, backed up by a stellar record of accomplishments,” declared Alliance President Kateri Callahan. “While we will sorely miss her predecessor, retiring SCE President John Fielder, we are confident that Ziegler’s history of leadership on energy efficiency will make her a valuable Alliance director.”
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the board of the Alliance to Save Energy,” Ziegler said. “There is tremendous opportunity in this country to become more energy efficient, and the Alliance is on the leading edge to help realize the opportunity."
“I believe that we can change the energy culture of this country through consistent public policy, recognition of the need for investment in energy efficiency and what I call the ‘continuity of ethic,’ which is engaging our energy users in a new culture of efficiency,” she said.
“The Nominating Committee is excited to welcome Linda to the Board. Her broad background in interfacing with consumers on energy efficiency and demand response is exactly the expertise that we need at this time in the development of national energy policy,” said Dave Szczupak, executive vice president, Whirlpool Corporation, and co-chair of the Alliance’s Nominating Committee.
“Lynda Ziegler has been a leader in increasing the energy efficiency of the electric utility sector,” said Edison Electric Institute President and fellow Nominating Committee co-chair Thomas R. Kuhn. “I welcome her as an industry colleague to the Alliance Board, and I look forward to working with her as we continue to advance our nation’s energy efficiency.”
