Energy Department's Microwave Standard Zaps Wasted Energy
Statement by the Alliance to Save Energy's Kateri Callahan
“Two weeks after Energy Secretary Ernie Moniz promised action on appliance standards to the Alliance’s EE Global Conference attendees, he followed through.
The Alliance hopes this is the first of many energy-saving appliance standards announcements by Secretary Moniz.
“This standard will improve the efficiency of microwaves by slashing the vampire power consumed when they aren’t in use – saving consumers nearly $3 billion on their energy bills through 2030.
“Steps like these get us closer to our Alliance goal – embraced by President Obama – to double U.S. energy productivity by 2030. If achieved, households could save more than $1000 a year, so keep the announcements coming to stop energy waste.”
