Senate Commits to a More Efficient America
Statement from Alliance to Save Energy’s Kateri Callahan
“Yesterday, the Senate committed to vote on important energy efficiency legislation authored by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio.) as a first order of business when they get back to work in September.
“Having the leadership put Shaheen-Portman at the top of a crowded Fall floor agenda is a clear signal that policy makers, irrespective of party affiliation, recognize that energy efficiency strategies advance their shared goals of reducing energy costs for consumers, businesses and the federal government, while creating jobs and cutting harmful emissions.
“When Congress reconvenes next month, I am confident that the Senate will heed the call of the broad coalition of businesses, advocates, associations and citizens from coast to coast to pass this practical, affordable and important energy efficiency bill. Any vote against Shaheen-Portman is a de facto vote in favor of continuing energy waste in this country."
