Alliance Responds to DOE Report Calling for Efficiency Regulatory Review
WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy released the following statement from President Kateri Callahan in response to DOE’s publication of the Final Report on Regulatory Review under Executive Order 13783, in which Secretary Perry calls for reviewing several longstanding energy efficiency regulations:
“We stand ready to work with Secretary Perry and the staff at the Department of Energy to review the appliance standards program with an eye toward making the program more transparent, streamlined and effective. No program is perfect and we, therefore, are eager to work together with DOE and all of the stakeholders – from the manufacturers to the environmental and efficiency community to consumer advocates – to consider sensible changes that can improve the program. And, we appreciate that the Secretary intends to include all of the stakeholders in the program review process.”
“We believe that lifting any undue burdens on industry and streamlining processes must be done in a manner that also ensures that the program continues to deliver the proven and enormous benefits to consumers and our economy that it has for the past four decades.”
“DOE's own studies show that the average U.S. household can expect to save more than $500 annually on energy bills by 2030 thanks to the appliance and equipment standards program. Products covered by the energy efficiency standards promulgated by DOE, like refrigerators and dishwashers, are not just using less energy, but the efficiency gains have been accompanied by lower purchase prices.”
The Alliance submitted comments to the DOE in July regarding the agency’s regulatory review.
