Administration's Auto Proposal Would Raise Americans' Fuel Costs, Carbon Emissions
WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy released the following statement from President Jason Hartke in response to EPA and NHTSA jointly publishing a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding vehicle fuel economy and greenhouse gas standards for 2021-2026 model year light-duty vehicles:
“Every American needs to know that the standards in place now will save consumers more than $8,000 over the life of each vehicle by 2025. We should be committed to realizing these savings, not proposing to roll them back.”
“Few policies have delivered the energy savings that fuel economy standards have – benefitting both consumers and the environment. This is a flexible program with a record of spurring technological innovation that makes cars more affordable to drive while lowering pollution. And the standards in place today are the product of years of extensive dialogue and negotiation.”
“Weakening our standards would not only raise costs but hurt our competitiveness abroad. And this move could potentially divide the U.S. into a patchwork of uneven regulations. No one wants that.”
“The agencies are proposing new policies yet the strongest one is the one already in place.”
