WASHINGTON—The Alliance to Save Energy released the following statement from President Jason Hartke after members of Congress introduced carbon tax bills Thursday:

“As most acknowledge, these bills aren’t going to pass Congress soon, but this is how momentum builds. It’s exciting to see so much bipartisan activity around policies that account for the costs of climate change by putting a price on carbon. We believe price signals like these are a big part of the solution for driving down emissions, including by stimulating energy efficiency across the economy and encouraging everyone to use energy more efficiently.”

“We are also pleased that these bills direct significant revenues toward energy efficiency. Programs like weatherization assistance for low-income households and mass transit will empower and enable more people to reduce their energy consumption, their energy costs and their carbon footprint. These investments won’t just make for a leaner, more productive economy but will stimulate jobs and economic development. We look forward to working with the leaders of these bills and particularly want to thank Alliance Honorary Board Vice-Chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Fla.), Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D-Ill.), and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) for their leadership.”
