House Funding Plan Invests in DOE's Energy Efficiency Programs
WASHINGTON—The Alliance to Save Energy released the following statement from President Jason Hartke regarding the House Appropriations Committee’s energy and water development spending bill, which was further detailed in a committee report Monday:
“Improving our energy efficiency is the least cost and fastest tool for reducing carbon emissions, and this bill recognizes that it’s simply a smart investment. This is what embracing energy innovation looks like. These are programs that pay off with reduced costs for consumers and business while reducing energy waste and decreasing pollution from power plants.”
“A big thank you to Chairwoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) for her leadership on this bill, embracing strong investments in efficiency programs. We look forward to the Senate’s funding bill next and working with appropriators to move the process forward in a timely manner.”
The House Appropriations Committee’s report on the energy and water appropriations bill calls for increasing funding for the following energy efficiency programs within the Energy Department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: Advanced Manufacturing Office (13%), Building Technologies Office (10%), Federal Energy Management Program (13%), State Energy Program (27%), Vehicle Technologies Office (8%), and Weatherization Assistance Program (14%). The report also calls for increased funding for other critical programs including ARPA-E (16%) and the Energy Information Administration (2%).
