States, cities, and towns have taken the lead in developing new, innovative energy efficiency policies to help community members do more with less.
As of August 2013, 25 states have established Energy Efficiency Resource Standards (EERS), requiring certain levels of long-term energy savings.
State & Local Energy Efficiency Policy
Many of the most innovative and advanced energy efficiency policies develop at the state and local level. States like California and Massachusetts are constantly pushing to maximize the energy savings potential of efficiency policies. Cities across the United States—from Austin, Texas to Washington, DC—are also beginning to implement policies with ambitious goals to reduce energy expenditures, energy consumption, and environmental impact.
Benefits of State & Local Efforts
While federal policy plays an important role in unifying our country’s energy goals, state and local policies give communities the opportunity to innovate and develop the plans that work best for their unique geographical and economic needs. State and local governments can cater to the specific energy needs of a community, develop locally relevant infrastructure, and encourage economic growth and job creation within the state.
Alliance Drives Energy Efficiency Policy Locally
The Alliance works with other stakeholders to identify and promote innovative state and local policies that can spread the benefits of energy efficiency to communities across the country. Afterwards, the Alliance shares those messages and successes with policy makers and stakeholders in Washington, DC.
