A Statement From Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan

“This morning Secretary of Energy Ernest J. Moniz unveiled an important new partnership that will work to achieve the goal of doubling U.S. Energy Productivity between now and the year 2030. The Alliance to Save Energy is honored and eager to join with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Council on Competitiveness on Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030, an initiative to ensure that the U.S. remains the world’s strongest and most dynamic economy by engaging stakeholders across the country in a national effort to double energy productivity, co-creating new pathways to achieving this goal, and catalyzing concrete actions by public and private stakeholders.

“All three partners bring important experience and on-going work into the new partnership. DOE works across the economy to improve energy productivity in response to the President’s stated goal of cutting energy waste in half between now and 2030. The Council on Competitiveness has built a long history of working with forward-looking leaders to set an action agenda to drive U.S. competitiveness. And, the Alliance developed a set of policy recommendations that could lead to doubling U.S. energy productivity and has been working for the past 18 months to realize implementation of the recommendations by public and private sector stakeholders across the country and in the Nation’s Capital.

Achieving the goal of Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 can deliver critical benefits to the U.S. including savings of $327 billion in avoided energy costs, the creation of 1.3 million jobs and the lowering of imported energy to represent only 7% of total consumption.
