Alliance Praises Updates to Weatherization Programs
Statement from the Alliance to Save Energy's Kateri Callahan on S. 1213
“We commend Alliance to Save Energy Honorary Vice-Chairs Sens. Coons (D-Del.) and Collins (R-Maine) for their leadership on this bipartisan legislation that would reauthorize and improve the Weatherization and State Energy Programs. Far too many low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities live in housing that needlessly waste energy, leading to health problems, environmental issues, and sky-high utility bills.
“These invaluable programs not only allow millions of Americans to reduce their energy consumption and save money, they also support domestic jobs. This bill would help maintain the national profile of the Weatherization Program with appropriate resources and, even more, introduce a complementary innovation initiative to leverage private funding for weatherization projects – increasing the reach of limited federal funds to help even more families save energy.
“The Alliance to Save Energy looks forward to working with the Senate to advance this important legislation in the coming months.”
