Shaheen-Portman Delay Disappointing, But Fight Will Go On
Statement from Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan
“We are very disappointed that the Shaheen-Portman bill (S. 1392) has stalled in the Senate, having been placed on the back burner for the time being. Passage of this common-sense, cost-effective legislation with broad political support and stakeholder backing should be a no-brainer as it would save consumers and businesses money, lower levels of pollution, and increase U.S. economic competitiveness.
“However, we are heartened and impressed by the enduring efforts of the sponsors, Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio), and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee leadership, Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Ranking Member Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). We commend their hard work, collaboration, and ongoing commitment to making America more efficient.
“The Alliance to Save Energy is determined to continue working with stakeholders to help these energy efficiency champions advance Shaheen-Portman through the Senate, and send it to the President’s desk to be signed into law.”
