On the evening of October 4th, 2022, The Alliance to Save Energy hosted its 30th annual Evening With the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Gala at the International Spy Museum. Every year, the Alliance to Save Energy hosts the Gala to recognize organizations and individuals making extraordinary contributions to energy efficiency. This year’s gala was attended by over 200 guests from industry, government, and academia to honor the best and the brightest in energy efficiency, and featured speakers including U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and Congressman Bobby L. Rush of Illinois.
Sec. Granholm’s remarks highlighted the immense opportunity ahead for the clean energy sector and ensuring that energy efficiency is rightfully elevated within the administration as one of the best solutions for helping our nation reach its decarbonization and energy security goals.
“We are thrilled to recognize so many outstanding individuals, companies, and organizations dedicated to the advancement of energy efficiency,” said Alliance to Save Energy President Paula Glover. “On the 30th anniversary of the Stars of Energy Efficiency Gala, we reflected on the leaders that have prioritized efficiency standards and therefore a cleaner economy, environment and a more just energy transition, while also recognizing those who continue to drive the industry forward.”
This year the Alliance to Save Energy had a new award – the Guiding Star Award, to recognize the contributions of outstanding educators. Since 1996, the Alliance has been a leader in delivering K12 energy education. The Alliance’s EmPowered Schools programs teach young people how to advance energy efficiency on their campuses, in their homes and throughout their communities. This new award honors the teachers who give their students the knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to be agents of change today and in their futures.
“It is an immense honor to accept the first Guiding Star Award among so many amazing educators and EmPowered Schools champions, said Long Branch New Jersey Public Schools teacher Kelly Stone. “The Alliance to Save Energy has created so many opportunities for the students of the George L. Catrambone School and has truly shaped the culture and sustainability here in our school…The true guiding star is the message that has brought back to our students’ families and community.”
Congressman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL), who serves as the Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and has led an esteemed career advocating for energy justice, was honored with the Equity in Energy Award – highlighting the congressman’s decades of work to ensure a just energy transition that is also reliable and affordable to all.
